What’s Hot in Airdrie This Summer // June 3, 2015
Summer has arrived, which means everyone is looking to get out into the community and meet new people. There is no shortage of things to see and do over the next few months in Airdrie.
Here are a few events to consider checking out as the weather continues to warm up:
- Airdrie Farmers Market: Wednesdays from 3:30 to 7:00pm, beginning on June 3
The Airdrie’s Farmers Market is a great place to find fresh, local produce from the finest local purveyors and producers. You will have access to everything from original quilts, hand crafted art, to natural soaps and lotions. There will always be fresh produce, food trucks, delicious pies and a selection of gluten free items available. - Cozy Corner Acoustic Music Jam: Tuesdays from 6:30 to 9:00pm
AJ Kolankowski & Renee Werenka host a music jam in the coffee shop every week. Feel free to bring your own instrument, or use one of theirs. This weekly jam is a great place to practice your music skills and discover that “inner musician.” It’s also a fun opportunity to connect with new people with similar interests. - Airdrie Knitters: Sunday and Mondays
If you want to learn to knit, or are an avid knitter already, the Good Earth Cafe hosts the Airdrie Knitters on a regular basis. No matter your skill level, feel free to come out and create with the group. - Fabulous Lifestyle Over 50 Expo: June 7 from 1:00 to 6:00pm
Trademark Show Productions is excited to present the Fabulous Lifestyle Over 50 Expo in Airdrie this June. The event will offer a fresh take on life past 50 and help you discover ways to enjoy your freedom. Vendors will feature things such as fitness, travel, education and more! If you are looking for a new kick in your step, this might be something worth checking out. - Youth Job Fair: June 8 from 3:30 to 6:00pm
Is your teenager looking for a job this summer? The Boys and Girls Club of Airdrie and the Airdrie Employment Services have teamed up and are thrilled to offer a Youth Job Fair. This job fair will host employers who are specifically looking for youth employees over the summer months. This is a great chance to hand out those resumes and see what is out there. - Airdrie Beer, Wine & Spirits Festival: June 21
Book off June 21 and visit the Airdrie Town and Country Centre to taste beers, wines and spirits. This event will be an opportunity to broaden your palate and expose yourself to new things you may not have tried before. A variety of liquor and food vendors will be featured, as well as music, entertainment and a silent auction in support of the Alberta 2014 Summer Games. - Annual Airdrie Pro Rodeo: June 27 - July 1
It just wouldn’t be summer in Alberta without a great rodeo! Head out to the Airdrie Rodeo Grounds for some bareback bronc riding, steer wrestling, barrel racing and bull riding. The evening beer gardens always draws a crowd, as well as daytime activities for children. Live entertainment will start each day after the last bull has been ridden, with Chris Leblanc for all five nights and Mark Lorenz on July 1. Keep in mind that this year the rodeo is teaming up with Airdrie Food Bank! Donations of non-perishable food items will be accepted so don’t forget to check your pantry before leaving the house. - Canada Day Celebrations: July 1
There are many activities taking place to celebrate Canada’s birthday in Airdrie! Begin your day with the Canada Day Parade at 10am and then stop by the Airdrie Public Library Canada Day barbeque. The Wild Rose Humane Society will also be hosting Dog Day Afternoon in Nose Creek Park, which will feature an adopt-a-thon, barbecue, pet photography, obedience demos, safety talks and more. This will take place from noon to 4pm and you don’t want to miss it! The grand finale will take place at the Lake Park around dusk, so join the rest of Airdrie to enjoy the fireworks.
